Chronicle for 1965

The Delegates of the Belarusian SSR addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations on a variety of subjects, particularly connected with  colonial affairs. Statements were made relating to Portuguese Africa, Viet­nam, Southern Rhodesia, Aden and South-West Africa. Speaking at a Plenary Meeting held in New York on the 13th October 1965, the delegate of the BSSR His Excellency A. Huri ­novič welcomes the election of Mr. Pazhwak of Afghanistan to the Presidency of th e General Assembly, and pledged the support of the Bela­rusian people for Mr. U-Thant as General Secretary for a further term. On behalf of his Government, Mr. Hurinovič expressed the apprehension of many Belarusians over the re­arment of the German Federal Repub­lic, and recalled the sad fate of the "380.000 sons and daughters of the Belarusian people who were sent off to forced labour camps in Fascist Germany."
