Francis Skaryna’s Biblical Prefaces and their Place in Early Byelorussian Literature

Francis Skaryna, without doubt the most outstanding figure in the whole of Belarusian cultural history, achieved high distinction not only as translator, engraver and printer, but also as an original writer in both prose and, to a lesser extent, verse: to him belong the creation of genre of short prose essay that was new in both form and content, and, in addition, of the first examples of Belarusian vernacular poetry....
